IRMC hosts a Masterclass for students

MADAR partner IRMC hosted a three-day Masterclass focused on migration related research and methodologies

MADAR partner the Institute for Research on the Contemporary Maghreb (IRMC) –IRMC- held a three-day masterclass on “Migration(s) and border issues: theoretical and methodological approaches to ethnographic research” from March 4 to 6, 2024 for second-year Masters and Ph.D. students in Tunisia. The Masterclass was held as part of the MADAR funded research project “Vulnerabilities, racism and political subjectivities in Tunisia: the ethnographic case of migrants from West Africa”

This event served as a robust capacity-building initiative focused on migration-related research and methodologies employed by esteemed researchers and speakers. The speakers and students came from a wider range of disciplines, from anthropology, law, international relations, cultural studies, peace and conflict, religion, and demography. This diversity not only enriched the discussions but also facilitated engaging dialogues and interactions among the participants.

Participants were also introduced to Zotero software, streamlining the process of collecting resources, citing them accurately, and creating a concise bibliography. At the end of the masterclass participants were provided with a certificate recognising their commitment.

Looking ahead, IRMC anticipate hosting additional events that will benefit future researchers and provide valuable networking opportunities.
